Why is my roller door making a loud noise and what does it mean?

The internal mechanism of the roller door has general wear and tear

Our roller doors are designed to open and close smoothly and quietly, but over time the internal mechanism can begin to wear out causing the door to make loud and unpleasant noises. These noises could be due to a variety of reasons such as loose hardware, misaligned tracks or worn-out bearings. If left unchecked these issues can worsen leading to complete failure of the door. For this reason, we recommend that when you hear these noises you seek the assistance of one of our technicians to assess the overall condition of the door and identify the extent of the wear and tear. Depending on the severity of the issue the tech may suggest repairing the door or replacing it entirely. It is important to take prompt action as soon as you notice any discrepancies in your door's functionality to prevent further damage and reduce the risk of injury.

The spring tension on the roller door is too tight or too loose

A roller door that has too much or too little tension will be out of balance. The unit may operate under a substantial load, which will generate noise from the guides and motor. Not only will the door be noisy, but it may also be dangerous to operate. We recommend contacting us to assess your door and having one of our qualified technicians identify how much tension is built up in your door which will increase or release the tension as required.

The roller door has corroded

Exposure to the elements may cause the components of your roller door to corrode. External roller doors are particularly susceptible to corrosion. Corrosion can damage the components of your roller door and cause a squeak to develop. The earlier you catch signs of corrosion, the easier it will be to fix. Regular maintenance and servicing of your roller door is the best way to ensure that corrosion is kept on top of it. However, if significant corrosion has already occurred, one of our technicians will most likely be able to remedy the problem.
